Getting Started

How do I create an account?
Download the AltBite app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), open it, and tap "Sign Up". Enter your email, create a password, and you'll get instant access to your 7-day free trial with all premium features.
How do I scan a product?
Tap the scan button in the app, point your camera at the barcode on any food product, and AltBite will automatically detect and scan it. You'll get instant nutrition information and a personalized health score.

Subscription & Billing

What's included in the free trial?
Your 7-day free trial includes full access to all premium features: unlimited scans, AI Nutritionist advice, personalized meal planning, advanced analytics, and more. No credit card required to start.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime through your App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) subscription settings. Your access will continue until the end of your current billing period.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled through the App Store or Google Play based on their respective refund policies. Generally, refunds are not available for partial subscription periods, but exceptions may apply.

Features & Functionality

How accurate is the nutrition information?
We source our data from OpenFoodFacts, one of the world's largest open food databases. While we strive for accuracy, nutrition information may not be complete or current for all products. Always verify critical information on product packaging.
How does the AI Nutritionist work?
Our AI Nutritionist uses advanced language models (Anthropic Claude) combined with your health profile and scan history to provide personalized nutrition advice, meal suggestions, and ingredient analysis. It's designed to complement, not replace, professional medical advice.
What is the health score based on?
Our proprietary scoring algorithm analyzes multiple factors including nutrient density, additive risks, processing level, and your personal health preferences. The score is personalized based on your dietary restrictions and health goals.
Can I use AltBite offline?
Some features like viewing your scan history and favorites work offline. However, scanning new products and using the AI Nutritionist require an internet connection.

Privacy & Security

Is my data secure?
Yes. We use industry-standard encryption for all data transmission and storage. Your personal information is never sold to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, you can delete your account at any time from the Profile section in the app. This will permanently remove all your data including scan history, preferences, and account information.

Troubleshooting

The barcode scanner isn't working
Ensure you've granted camera permissions to the app in your device settings. Try cleaning your camera lens, ensuring good lighting, and holding your device steady. If issues persist, try restarting the app.
I can't find a product in the database
While we have millions of products, some items may not be in our database yet. You can contribute by adding product information to OpenFoodFacts, which will then appear in AltBite.
